Sizergh Fell Walk, 8 miles, 1000 feet of ascent
10 of us met at the Memorial Hall in dreary weather to share cars and drive to Sizergh Castle where we started our walk; which was a replacement route for the originally scheduled Cunswick Scar route. The route took us through Brigsteer Woods with its spring display of golden hazel catkins. Passing the old house of Wells Garth with its springs of fresh water then throught more woodland to Barrowfield Farm. A short uphill climb took us onto the ridge of Scout Scar, where at first we got some views. Pushing onto the Mushroom, a welcome lunch stop as the mist turned to rain. Dougie put his water proof over trousers on.
We retraced our steps for a short distance and were treated to clearing views over the Lyth valley and Morecombe Bay. The rain stopped and Dougie took his over trousers off.
A varied walk in good company was rounded off with tea, coffee and cake at Sizergh Castle Café.
And thanks to all the Burton Fell Walkers for turning out on such an unpromising day. Just proves that nature, walking and good company produce endorphins.
If you haven’t joined us yet, try a walk out sometime. They are printed in the Burton News.
