Kay Butterworth, a key member of the Fellwalkers for many years, died on 6th December 2024 following a period of ill health. She and her husband Keith attended part of the Calderdale holiday last year. She will be missed and our thoughts are with her family.
Keith has asked that we post his thanks to those from the Group who attended Kay’s funeral in Rochdale;
"I would like to thank all members of the Burton Fell Walkers who made the long journey down to Rochdale to be at Kays funeral. And all members who sent messages of condolences to myself and my family. I look back to our good times with the group of which there are many and hope that I can rejoin you all in summer. Friends ask how are things with you at the moment? I have a one word answer. Quiet. Once again I thank you all for joining me, my family and friends to make Kays funeral a true celebration of what was a very full life." Keith.
Social Programme
Our Social events normally include:
- Annual Dinner which is held at the end of January.
- A Mince Pie Walk shortly before Christmas which consists of a short local walk from Burton followed by a social at the Memorial Hall with food and drink supplied by all members.
Special events:
2019 was our 40th anniversary. This was celebrated with a walk on Farleton Knott followed by a party in the Memorial Hall.
In 2023 Society members Dawn & Gillian Harrison-Ward hosted a Summer BBQ social which was greatly enjoyed. We hope that a 'Summer Social' hosted by members will become a regular feature of the Society's annual calendar.
