Report:

The two groups caught the Ullswater steamer from Glenridding to Howtown in bright sunshine, and walked together from the pier to the lakeshore path. Here our ways parted, Dougie leading us into Boredale to begin the climb to Place Fell summit. We turned off the road at Garth Heads farm, climbing steadily on a good path to the ridge below High Dodd summit. A pleasant walk across Low Moss, passing the restored sheep fold and serenaded by lark song. Then another steady climb past Mortar Crag before turning toward the final ascent to the cairn on Place Fell. Wonderful views all round. It was quite breezy so lunch was taken just below the summit before heading down the steeper drop to Boredale Hause. From there a steady descent to Side Farm, Patterdale, and then a last walk along the pavement to Glenridding where we met up with Group A for tea & cake. A delightful day with superb views.
