Thirteen members set off on Monday 9th September for Pitlochry by various routes to meet at the Hydro Hotel in time for the evening meal.

Ben Vrackie lies behind Pitlochry and was one of the peaks some of the party were keen to ascend. As the following day was forecast to be dry and mostly sunny, seven members made an assault on the mountain who’s summit was just in the clouds but with every prospect that the clouds would disperse as the day went on.

After crossing the moorland above Pitlochry, Loch a’ Choire was reached and the remaining steeply stepped climb to the top loomed ahead. Views from the summit were very good when the light cloud moved off and the party enjoyed their lunch before returning to the loch. A traverse path over the shoulder of Meall na h-Aodainn Moire, leading to the bealach on the Killiecrankie path, was followed to rejoin the main path leading to the car park.

Meanwhile another group caught the bus to Killiecrankie, noted the likely demise of the NT Visitor Centre there, and walked back along the riverside path to Pitlochry. The Visitor Centre at the hydro-electric dam provided good views and some welcome refreshments.

Evening entertainment based on kilt construction was provided by a member of staff at the hotel.
